Kairos is an international ecumenical ministry operating in 35 states and 9 foreign countries. Its purpose is to bring the light, love and friendship of Jesus Christ into the lives of prisoners. Much more information is available at their website.
Redeemer, along with many other churches in northeast Texas, support the Kairos program at the Michael Unit, a maximum security prison near Palestine. The Michael Unit program has been operating for over 25 years with 4 day weekends in the prison twice yearly. 42 inmates are welcomed into each semiannual program supported by roughly 35 male volunteers inside the prison and a similar sized team of men and women on the outside who prepare meals and other materials for the inside team. The volunteers are God’s tools inside and outside the prison. More details about the Michael Unit Kairos can be found at http://www.michaelunit.org/
The best starting point to witness the miracles that consistently happen inside this prison is to attend a closing ceremony on Sunday afternoon of one of the 4 day weekend programs. Contact Stewart Teasley if you would like to attend a closing ceremony. If you would like to step up as a volunteer, you will need to attend several Kairos training sessions leading up to a 4 day weekend and you will need to attend formal training provided by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Contact Stewart Teasley for more information.
